FAQ

BMW E90 headlights & lighting — FAQ

Do E90, E91, E92, and E93 share parts?
Yes for most chassis, interior, electronics, and infotainment. E90 = sedan, E91 = Touring (wagon), E92 = coupe, E93 = convertible. Bodywork from the B-pillar back is unique to each variant. Doors, hoods, fenders, dashboards, and most cabin parts interchange between sedan and Touring; coupe and convertible share most parts with each other but differ from sedan/wagon.
What's the difference between CCC and CIC head units in E90?
CCC (2005–2008) was the original iDrive with a separate menu controller and basic graphics. CIC (2008–2011) added a faster CPU, 80GB drive, and the modern menu structure. They're not pin-compatible — different connector and different coding. Most upgrades from CCC to CIC need a wiring adapter and full coding.
Do these parts fit BMW xDrive (AWD) models?
Most interior, infotainment, lighting, and bodywork parts are identical between RWD and xDrive variants of the same chassis. xDrive-specific differences are concentrated in the transmission tunnel, drivetrain, and ABS hardware. Listings explicitly call out drivetrain-specific fitment in the spec table.
How do I find my BMW chassis code?
Your chassis code is on the VIN plate inside the driver's door jamb, on the strut tower under the hood, and in your owner's manual under "Vehicle identification." It's a 3-character code like F30, E46, or G20 — the first letter is the platform generation and the digits are the body type. Searching by chassis is the single most reliable way to confirm BMW parts fitment.
What's the difference between Xenon, Adaptive, and LED headlights?
Xenon (HID) uses a high-voltage gas-discharge bulb with a separate ballast. Adaptive Xenon adds swivel motors that steer the beam into corners. Full LED housings (F30 LCI+, G20) integrate the diode arrays and have no separate bulb to replace. They're not interchangeable — your wiring, coding, and ballast presence dictate which one fits.
Are the headlight ballasts included with the assembly?
Yes — every Xenon headlight assembly we sell ships with its original BMW ballast (D1S, D3S, or D5S depending on chassis) mounted in the housing, unless explicitly noted otherwise. Ballasts are tested before listing; failures are graded down.
