About the BMW E60

The E60 was BMW's fifth-generation 5 Series, produced 2003 through 2010 — the last 5 Series before BMW's move to fully-digital iDrive (CIC). The E60 M5 (S85 V10, 7-speed SMG-III) ran 2005–2010 and is one of the most distinctive M cars of the era. The E61 Touring (wagon) shared front-half parts with E60 sedan.

Most E60 head units are CCC (Car Communication Computer — iDrive 1) or CIC (introduced mid-2008). Audio was HiFi standard with optional Logic 7 (677). The Logic 7 amplifier in E60 is prone to capacitor failure, producing high-pitched whine after warm-up — we bench-test every amp before listing.

Will E60 M5 parts fit a regular 545i / 550i?
Body, lighting, most interior switchgear, and infotainment — yes. M5-specific parts (S85 V10, SMG-III transmission, larger brakes, M5-only door cards, M-Sport seats) are not interchangeable. The S85 itself is famously its own beast and not cross-compatible with N62 V8 cars.
How do E60 and E61 wagon parts interchange?
E61 (Touring wagon) shares the front 70% of the car with E60 sedan — front bodywork, interior, infotainment, suspension, and engine bay are interchangeable. Rear-section parts (tailgate, parcel shelf, rear suspension air bags on Touring) are E61-specific.
How do I find my BMW chassis code?
Your chassis code is on the VIN plate inside the driver's door jamb, on the strut tower under the hood, and in your owner's manual under "Vehicle identification." It's a 3-character code like F30, E46, or G20 — the first letter is the platform generation and the digits are the body type.
