About the BMW E70

The E70 was BMW's second-generation X5, sold 2007 through 2013 with N52, N54, N55, and S63 engines. The E70 LCI refresh mid-2010 brought updated headlights, tail lights, NBT head unit (replacing CCC), and the X5 M variant with S63 V8. The E71 X6 shares chassis and most front-half body parts with E70.

Cameras are a strong category for E70 — parking, rear-view, and surround-view systems were widely optioned. Do E70 X5 and E71 X6 parts interchange?
Many do — same E-series SUV platform underneath. Interior switchgear, head units, amplifiers, modules, and most front-half body parts interchange. X6-specific parts (coupe-style rear glass, sloped tailgate, rear-quarter panels) are unique. Listings explicitly call out X5-only vs X6-only fitment.
Will pre-LCI (2007–2010) and LCI (2011–2013) E70 parts swap?
Mostly yes — chassis and interior platform unchanged. The LCI refresh updated headlights (now LED-eye versions), tail lights, front bumper, and NBT head unit. These cosmetic and infotainment updates are not backward-compatible without coding.
X5 M (E70 M) — what's interchangeable?
Body, lighting, interior switchgear, and infotainment from a regular X5 fit the X5 M. X5 M-specific parts (S63 engine, M-DCT, larger brakes, M-aerokit body panels, M-only interior trim) are not cross-compatible with N55/N62 X5s.
How do I find my BMW chassis code?
Your chassis code is on the VIN plate inside the driver's door jamb, on the strut tower under the hood, and in your owner's manual under "Vehicle identification." It's a 3-character code like F30, E46, or G20 — the first letter is the platform generation and the digits are the body type. Searching by chassis is the single most reliable way to confirm BMW parts fitment.
